Complexities have their way of making us seem discouraged, they have their way of letting us down and making us feel we don’t have any way forward.
The truth is that we all face complexities at various instances of our life; even those who look settled have once faced or are still facing complexities. The only difference is our survival. Your survival determines your end result; it’s either you are being lifted or you become depressed.
Today, we are going to be sharing 10 trusted tips on how to survive complex situations and avoid Depression.
1. Identify the Signs and Causes of the Complexities
There are many signs you exhibit that you might not be aware of. Before you know how to cope with complexities, you need to realize what complexities are and recognize when you are being subjected to complex situations.
- As for me; I begin to feel tensed and overwrought then the complex facet springs up.
Also identify the causes of the complexities;
- It may be that when you refuse to complete your to-do list then you begin to feel overwhelmed.
- Yours might even be when you wake up late or when you get to work late.
2. Wait; Don’t Do Anything.
“Before you lay hands on a task, wait; view the task in all hooks and cranny. Don’t be in haste.” ~ Dr. Joe
Staying calm is also a very essential step to take when you are facing complexities; somethings tend to resolve themselves when we relax and don’t do anything. I was having a conversation with a force man in south west Nigeria one sunny afternoon and the male officer said something provoking, I had a response to his words in mind but I paused a few seconds to take deep breaths; He noticed my pause and the look on my face and immediately reversed his statement. I then smiled and that was all; we both went our different ways.
The first step to take when you realize that you are facing a difficult challenge is to stay relaxed and perceive how what the situation wants to look like.
3. This Will Also Pass Away
When you are going through complex situations, you need to remind yourself of the past, remember how you had gone through a similar challenge, how you faced even greater challenges and remind yourself that this too shall pass.
I remember when I had a dislocation in my leg, the pain was so much that I thought that was the end of my leg, I remembered when I faced really embarrassing scenes back then at college when I thought to myself that an end has come to my living yet they all passed away.
Realizing that “this” will also pass away helps you earn a strong tempo during complex moments and you tend to get out of “it” sooner than expected.
4. Use The Double P Strategy For Productivity.
No doubt, procrastination sooner or later gets us under pressure, which brings us into a complex state which would someday lead to Depression, and this will earn you a negative overview of your life, and loss of hope.
Use the “double p strategy” to know how to treat procrastination and pressure issues
5. Simplify And Begin To Take Smaller Steps.
“Free yourself from the complexities and drama of your life. Simplify; look within. Within ourselves, we all own the gifts and talents to fulfill the purpose we have being blessed with.” ~ Steve Maraboli.
Sometimes we don’t want to take baby steps we choose to wait till the step is matured not knowing that accumulation of the baby steps results into vast procedures.
Complexities are quite devastating but remember that the voyage of a thousand miles begins by taking a simple step. Atimes, perfectionism is a felon; it is usually unfeasible yet we tend to stay subjected and we restrain ourselves from doing anything waiting for just the perfect step not knowing that the perfect step is “the accumulation of smaller practical steps”.
6. Be Optimistic
Many people get stuck in their complexities, trying to find a way out but still focusing on the negatives.
During complex situations, a sure fire way to stand out is by building your sense of optimism. Sure life has its ups and downs but you need to have a positive mental defiance towards things if not you drown in worries, anxiety and doubt.

- Try to Get Organized
Every minutes spent organizing is an hour earned.” ~ Benjamin franklin
Most people get into complex states because of their failure to organize their tasks.
Being organized doesn’t only help you to get the task done faster, it also helps to look beyond the present situations. When you organize your task, you create a clearer outlook for yourself which tends to make you feel energized and key up to get to fulfillment.
- Begin to Work Smart
“It’s not just enough to be busy; so are the ants. – The question is what are you busy about?” ~ Henry David Thoreau.
You need to begin to work smart not just working hard.
To survive during complex moments, you are required to magnify your work ethics in a smart way. It’s not just working hard this time it’s about working smart; doing things that are right, in the right way, at the right time and with the right state of mind.

- Don’t Observe Others. Look At Yourself Alone
Observing what is going on in your environment or comparing yourself with others is the worst thing you could do during complexities.
When you compare yourself with others you see nothing but others. That’s when you’ll begin to earn for yourself a negative overview of things that are supposed to be right.
When facing complex situations, don’t be tempted to “look out”. Complex times aren’t the right time to make comparison. Focus on yourself and how you can subdued these complexities to achieve the brighter side of your dreams.
- Stop Unproductive Habits and Move Out Of Comfort Zone.
This is the last and most relevant step. It is also important to take specific actions when under complex situations. But you cannot take actions if you are still in your comfort zone.
You nit-pick of complexities in life yet you still lie fallow, you nitpick of complexities at work yet you aren’t ready to put a full stop to those unproductive habit, you still give way to internal and external distractions. If you don’t move out of that comfort zone of yours you are moving close to depression.
When you face complexities, it’s important to drop complex hobbies and change your location.
